BANGKOK ON A BIKE

BANGKOK ON A BIKE

Bangkok was our first stop on the gap yah travels. After a long flight we were tired and definitely not looking our best but we just about managed to get out of bed (after Phoebe dropped her phone down the loo good job). We booked our tour with ABC Bangkok and we were very well looked after. We had quite a small group and made friends with a couple from England who had already been travelling for six months.

Our day started with Michiel, our guide, giving us our bikes and then we were straight onto the road. No helmets eek thought we might die as the tour starts in central Bangkok with the crazy death roads. Luckily we made it to Chinatown alive where we cycled through the tiny streets where the lovely tiny children would all shout hello. I wouldn't advise doing this part without a guide as some paths were very small and you sort of needed to know where you're going.

We crossed over an old wooden bridge (another life-threatening experience) and then we got on a boat! After loading on the bikes we got into the longboat and were treated to some banana chip snacks. On the other side of Chao Praya river it was a completely different scene. There were lush green trees everywhere and a single road leading away from the pier. We took the road and followed onto an elevated concrete boardwalk type thing so we could cycle above the watery area. It was a bit tricky at times if we had to pass another person or if there was a dog in the path(there were many) but thankfully we didn't fall off the edge.

We looped around the forest, headed back to the boat and crossed the river. Yet again we had to face the crazy drivers (see below for Phoebe ready to race the mopeds- it was a close second place) but somehow made it safely back to the centre where we were treated to a refreshing towelette, free of charge.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Even if I did see my life flash before my eyes once or twice.

We did the morning tour which cost 1300 baht / £30 and was 13-16km
Full day tour is 1800 baht / £40 and is 16-20km
