COIN, High Tyde, Hippo Campus

and other SUPER COOL INDIE BANDS

I'm pretty much listening to music every waking second so I thought I'd give you an insight to my favourite bands. Not really sure why they're called indie bands because they just make really good songs, I don't know why they're not in the charts. Strangest thing is that 2-3years ago I barely listened to music at all. I knew a few Top 40 hits and that was it. Many thanks go to my sister who forced me to listen to some of her favourite artists, the first ones being Catfish and the Bottlemen and Rihanna.
Now, just like me, you can become super cool by listening to these indie bands.

COIN

COIN are from Tennessee and have a really good feel good sound. They have two albums: COIN and How Will You Know If You Never Try, both of which are amazing. My absolute favourite has to be the Patrick Stump remix of Talk Too Much. Probably the top band who I listen to and desperately want to see live the most. Why they choose to only tour in America who know's pls come bless us UK

The Wombats

Liverpudlian The Wombats make some of the catchiest songs I know, bangers including Greek Tragedy, Schumacher the Champagne, Moving to New York and, of course, the great Let's Dance to Joy Division. Their albums are A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, This Modern Glitch, Glitterbug and soon coming in 2018 will be Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life (counting down the days). Saw them live at Truck Festival 2017 after standing at the barrier for 4 hours. Most definitely was worth it. So worth it that my friend, Beth, passed out from exhaustion after waiting for hours, was then lifted over the barrier and after having recovered then pushed her way back through the crowd to get in position at the barrier ready for The Wombats to come on.

High Tyde

Another band I saw at Truck (the incredibly good line up meant we just about survived the mud) and experienced the best mosh of my life. Even though they didn't play my favourite song, Do What You Want, they were still amazing. They've toured with The Hunna and Rat Boy which speaks for itself. Running out of positive adjectives here

Jagwar Ma

Pretty sure these aren't even an indie band but still all good music is valid here. This Australian group mixes dance and alternative rock (Spotify says it's neo-psychedelia but not really sure what this is). Another one from Truck who are pretty groovy. Potentially a more acquired taste. Batter Up is the first song of their's I heard and is quite easy-listening.

Hippo Campus

Funny story: my sister introduced me to this band and she didn't know that the hippo campus is a part part of the brain. She was pretty shocked when I told her but I guess that's what older sisters are for. Their debut album, Landmark, is wonderfully chilled out and the single Suicide Saturday is another favourite.

Vinyl Theatre

Vinyl Theatre are a more recently discovered band who's single, Breaking Up My Bones, caught my ear. Again, another catchy song which I am yet to get bored of. Seriously good song go give it a listen.

Knox Hamilton

Slightly less rock band (apart from Back Porch, that one has some good guitar stuff going) from Arkansas. The name was randomly picked out of an old yearbook found in a thrift store. My favourite songs are Work It Out and Washed Up Together (which even made it onto my Gals Holiday in Marbella/Puerto Banus vid).

Jaws

Jaws are a proper proper indie band. Took me a while to get into them but I can conclude they are very cool indeed. Created in Birmingham, they have now released two studio albums called Simplicity and Be Slowly. This is another band I saw at Truck Festival in 2017 and they gathered a pretty big crowd!

Viola Beach

Their music is feel good and happy and I would be super pumped looking forward to them releasing a new album but it makes me so sad to say they were killed in car crash in Sweden with their manager in 2016. Swings and Waterslides just makes you want to dance whereas Call You Up makes me want to curl up and cry knowing such talent and young life has been lost. Their debut LP was released a few months after their death and reached number one in the UK album chart.

JUDAS

Honoured to say that my friend's older brother is bassist for this band and they do make very nice indie rock tunes. They played at Main Stage Reading Festival last summer (I was there of course) and have a growing fan base. Call Me is a personal favourite and I still stand by that the song Sister is about my dear friend Phoebe.

Circa Waves

Going slightly more mainstream here but I'm going to say that's because Circa Waves are just too good. Their first album, Young Chasers, is sort of like COIN, very feel good and summery. Different Creatures, their second album, is much more rock with Fire That Burns and Goodbye having awesome guitar. (saw them at Reading Festival, just going to keep going with the name drops).
