CLUBBING, SALSA AND NIGHTLIFE IN TAMARINDO

A main feature of my time in Costa Rica was alcohol. and most of it was drank in Tamarindo when I stayed at Dreamsea Surf Camp for 3 weeks. From salsa dancing to ladies night to empty techno clubs and Lizard Lounge (that's right Bristolians LIZARD LOUNGE (rip))

Pacifico

This was one of the biggest clubs in Tamarindo which we went to quite a few times. They run Ladies' Night every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday so that means free drinks for ladies a whole three nights a week. But don't worry guys, if you ask nicely and bring a straw then most girls will be happy to share. Tbh I probably spent half the nights queuing for drinks to then hand them to the guys. That's why shots at the bar is the perfect idea - nice and quick if not slightly eye-watering. What's even more dangerous is when the bar tenders try pour the shot directly into your mouth and you either get it all down your chin, knock out a tooth or something similarly horrendous.
There are two rooms: the biggest is downstairs which starts off the night with some classic pop club hits but then by 1am it's probably turned to full on reggaeton which after 2 months in Central America can become a bit of a chore. The second room is upstairs and plays some surprisingly groovy electronic dance music and techno. Quite a nice change from the constant reggaeton beat downstairs.

Crazy Monkey

I think this is actually some kind of apartment rental place but they also have a pool and two dancefloors. They hold a salsa night on a Friday which we dutifully practised for beforehand in camp so that after an hours training us girls were able to be swept into the arms of any leading man. If you're willing to risk being swept away by a somewhat questionable local then feel free to brave the salsa dancefloor at Crazy Monkey which also has a live band.
The second floor is open air next to the pool (not allowed in it sadly) and plays more mainstream club tunes which eventually fades into mostly hip-hop and rap.

I'm apparently incapable of taking an in-focus picture

Lizard Lounge

Ah lizard lounge my old friend. If anyone is missing the ol lounge (sadly replaced by The Lounge Clifton) then just head over to Costa Rica for that nostalgic loving feel. You'll find girls up on the bar, a sticky floor and creepy guys. What more could a girl possibly wish for? You definitely go for a good time and not a long time; better for pres or afters or on a quiet night maybe just a few drinks.

The Mysterious Techno Club

I swear every time we went here we were the only people but thankfully we were a big group so if you're drunk enough then it's actually quite fun and a blissful change from all the reggaeton. If I remember correctly it's opposite Sharky's on the main street. During the day you wouldn't know it's a club but by night they get the cool lights going and DJ out. Free entry and not out of the way so it's a fun one to check out.

And finally...

Head down to the beach for a relax, sit back and look up at the stars. Maybe a skinny dip if you're feeling wild (be sure to keep an eye on your stuff though, Tamarindo isn't without it's opportunistic crime). You're in Costa Rica so PURA VIDAAA
